During this lab scouts talked about mass, surface area and frontal area. We looked at the relationship between object mass and surface area and how it influences velocity as it falls.
Activity 1
Scouts had to investigate how mass and surface affects the velocity of an object falling by dropping different objects. We used printed templates of 3D objects that we assembled with paperclips inside of them for weight. We then dropped them to see if the frontal area affected their fall times.
Activity 2
We made hoop gliders using paper, straws, tape, and scissors. After testing it students were able to improve on the design.
