During this lab scouts were looking at the forces acting on a parachute diving a bit deeper into velocity creating their own parachutes.
Activity 1
Scouts got to work building their own parachutes using string, tape, paperclips, tissue paper, napkins, plastic trash bags, aluminum foil, washers. Depending on their combination of materials use students documented the results to create their own hypotheses on what works best.
Activity 2
A parachute challenge proceeded using our different hyporheses results to see who's parachute can stays in the air the longest. We used a stopwatch and charted out our results to determine the best parachute.
